Present Continuous

Estrutura e uso

- Expressa uma atividade que está sendo executada ou 
desenvolvida no momento da fala;

Subject  + to be + main verbing

I am teaching English now.

Estou ensinando inglês agora.



- Expressa ações que ocorrem por um determinado período ou atualmente;
Many people are going ondiet to keep in shape.
Muitas pessoas estão fazendo dieta  para manterem-se em
forma.

- Expressa ações futuras planejadas anteriormente;
My friends are visiting the Zoo next week.
Meus amigos estão visitando o zoológico semana que vem.

Exceptions
Verbos que não são usados no Present Continuous;
 love (amar)  forget (esquecer)  hate (odiar)      

need (precisar) like (gostar)  know (saber/conhecer)

prefer (preferir)  remember (lembrar)   

understand (entender)

Regras para o Present Progressive
- Acrescenta-se o ing no verbo principal (main verb). Exemplos:
work – working;   trabalhar -  trabalhando
sleep sleepingdormir  dormindo
eat eatingcomer  comendo
study studyingestudar  estudando
play – playingjogar  jogando
drink drinkingbeber  bebendo
- Quando os verbos terminarem em –e, retira-se o –e, e adiciona-se o ing. Exemplos:
drivedrivingdirigir  dirigindo
havehavingter  tendo
writewritingescrever  escrevendo
leaveleavingpartir  partindo 
livelivingmorar  morando
taketakingtomar  tomando
- Quando o verbo terminar em ieretira-se o iesubstituindo por y antes de acrescentar o ing. Examples:
lielyingdeitar, mentir  deitando
diedyingmorrer  morrendo
tietyingamarrar  amarrando
Quando os verbos terminarem em consoante vogal consoante -CVCdobra-se a última consoante e adiciona-se o ing. Examples:
stop - stopping;   parar  parando
swim - swimming;   nadar  nadando
run - running;   correr  correndo
jog - jogging;   fazer   fazendo cooper
sit - sitting;   sentar  sentando 
cut - cutting;   cortar  cortando
- Contudo, quando os verbos tiverem mais de uma sílaba, a última tem que ser tônica (oxítona). Examples:
begin beginningcomeçar   começando
permitpermittingpermitir  permitindo
limitlimittinglimitar  limitando
- Caso contrário, não se dobra a última sílaba.
Ex: listenlistening  escutar  escutando

Affirmative form
I am teaching English  now. 
Eu estou ensinando inglês agora.
You are studying it right now.
Você está estudando-o neste momento.
Ralph is jogging in the park at the moment.
Ralph está fazendo cooper no parque no momento.
Tina is driving home at the moment
Tina está dirigindo para casa no momento.
The child is lying to its mother now.
A criança está mentindo para a sua mãe agora.
You and I are swimming in the pool now.
Você e eu estamos nadando na piscina agora.
David and you are planning to travel now.
David e você estão planejando viajar agora.
The children are playing in the garden now.
As crianças estão brincando no jardim agora.

Negative form
I am not teaching German now.
You are not having lunch right now.
Ralph is not jogging at the club now.
Tina is not driving to school at the moment.
The child isn’t lying to its father now.
You and I are not swimming in the lake  now.
David and you aren’t planning to study  now.
The children aren’t playing soccer now.

Interrogative form
Am I teaching French now ?
Are you working it right now ?
Is Ralph jogging in the park at the moment?
Is Tina driving home at the moment ?
Is the child lying to its friend now ?
Are you and I swimming in the sea now ?
Are David and you planning to travel now?
Are the children playing in the garden now?
