Regular Verbs

Uso

Tempo definido: há a necessidade de se mencionar o tempo em que ocorreu a ação (ontem, semana passada, etc.).

I worked a lot yesterday.
Eu trabalhei muito ontem.

Sarah visited her parents last week.
Sarah visitou seus pais semana passada.

We lived in London last year.
Nós moramos em Londres no ano passado.

Robert carried a gun an hour ago.
Robert carregou uma arma há uma hora atrás.

You prefferred tea to coffee yesterday.
Você preferiu chá a café ontem.

Rules

- Acrescenta-se o ed no final do verbo - played;

- Se ele terminar em e, acrescenta-se somente o d - lived;

- Se ele terminar em y precedido por consoante,

retira-se o y e adiciona-se o i + o ed - cried;

- Se ele terminar em CVC e com sílaba tônica,

dobra-se a última letra e adiciona-se o ed - stopped.

Advérbios e locuções adverbias do passado

Yesterday = ontem

Last week / month / year / night
semana / mês / ano / noite passada (o)

An hour / a week / a month ago
uma hora / semana / mês atrás

A year / two hours / two weeks ago
um ano / duas horas / duas semanas atrás

Affirmative Form

Acrescenta-se a regra do ed no verbo regular após o sujeito e não se faz distinção entre os sujeitos.

I displayed the movie on my laptop.
Eu mostrei o filme no meu laptop.

Cathy studied Math two hours ago.
Cathy estudou matemática duas horas atrás.

The accident occurred an hour ago.
O acidente ocorreu uma hora atrás.

Beth carried her purse to work.
Beth carregou sua bolsa para o trabalho.

We loved each other in the past.
Nós amamos um ao outro no passado.

Allison obeyed his mother yesterday.
Allison obedeceu a sua mãe ontem.

The girl listened to me last month.
A garota me escutou no mês passado.

Negative Form

Na forma negativa, utiliza-se o auxiliar DO no passado que é o DID, acrescentando-se também o advérbio de negação NOT, assim temos o did not ou o didn't, colocados antes do verbo principal, o qual não sofre mudança.

Deborah did not work yesterday.
Debora não trabalhou ontem.

I didn’t study Physics last week.
Eu não estudei física semana passada.

Sarah didn’t play basket last weekend.
Sarah não jogou basquete no final de semana passado.

It didn’t stop working last month.
Não parou de funcionar  no mês passado.

John didn’t listen to me an hour ago.
John não me escutou uma hora atrás.

Michael didn’t show her his caress a month ago.
Michael não lhe demonstrou seu carinho um mês atrás.

David and Sarah didn’t arrive from Italy a week ago.
David e Sarah não chegaram da Itália uma semana atrás.

Interrogative Form

Na forma interrogativa, utiliza-se o auxiliar DID antes do sujeito seguido do verbo principal no infinitivo sem o to, e no final da frase o ponto de interrogação (?).

Obs: tanto na negativa quanto na interrogativa o verbo principal não muda de forma.

Did I arrive here on time last week ?
Eu cheguei aqui na hora semana passada ?

Did you play chess yesterday ?
Você jogou xadrez ontem ?

Did Peter carry his gun to work?
Peter carregou sua arma para o trabalho ?

Did the accident occur last night ?
O acidente ocorreu na noite passada?

Did Susan help him an hour ago ?
Susan o ajudou há uma hora ?

Did we travel to London last year ?
Nós viajamos para Londres no ano passado ?

Did they study for the test yesterday ?
Elas estudaram para a prova ontem ?

Irregular Verbs

Affirmative Form

Deborah ate a lot yesterday.
Deborah comeu muito ontem.

I went to the Physics’ class last week.
Eu fui à aula de física semana passada.

Sarah saw the basketball match last weekend.
Sarah vieu o jogo de basquete no final de semana passado.

It drank its milk last month.
Ele bebeu seu leite no mês passado.

John spoke to me in French an hour ago.
John falou comigo em Francês há uma hora.

Michael found his keys a month ago.
Michael achou suas chaves um mês atrás.

David and Bob came from Italy a week ago.
David e Bob vieram da Itália uma semana atrás.

Pode-se observar que na afirmativa o verbo principal, além de perder o 'to', transforma-se em uma forma quase sempre diferente, contudo utilizada para todas as pessoas.

Negative Form

Na forma negativa, utiliza-se o auxiliar DO no passado que é o DID, acrescentando-se também o advérbio de negação NOT, assim temos o did not ou o didn't, colocados antes do verbo principal, o qual não sofre mudança.

Deborah did not see me yesterday.

I didn’t read the Physics book last week.

Sarah didn’t meet me last weekend.

It didn’t eat its food last month.

John didn’t speak to me an hour ago.

Michael didn’t do his homework.

David didn’t fly to Italy a week ago.

Eles escreveram um poema ontem ?

Obs: tanto a interrogativa quanto a negativa dos verbos irregulares funcionam da mesma forma que os verbos regulares.
